Cleveland, OH - Delaware County Commissioner Jeff Benton announced today that he was endorsing conservative outsider Mike Gibbons in his campaign for the United States Senate. Benton's endorsement follows the endorsement of State Senator Jay Hottinger earlier this week and several other significant endorsements this month.
"The U.S. Senate needs more people like Mike in it," Commissioner Benton said. "Mike's not a career politician, he's an outsider and businessman who understands how the real world works. Congress could really use more business minds in it and that's exactly what Mike would bring. I know that Mike will do the best job representing Ohio in the Senate and that he gives Republicans their best shot at defeating Sherrod Brown in the general election."
Before becoming a Delaware County Commissioner, Benton worked in the private sector for 35 years, including executive positions at three banks. He previously served nine years on the Board of Trustees of Ohio Wesleyan University and has served numerous other community and professional organizations.
Delaware County is among the largest in Ohio and a Republican stronghold.
Other recent endorsements for Gibbons include Joy Padgett, the Chair of Ohio Women for Trump, and the endorsement of Belmont County Republican Party Chairman Christopher Gagin last week as well as the overwhelming endorsement of the Franklin County Republican Party.
