Gibbons For Senate

Washington is broken, and the career politicians have failed us.

Politicians don’t create jobs.  Politicians have undermined our ability to create jobs.  My experience is in the real world. I’ve signed both the front and back of paychecks. I understand what it means to take risks, work hard, balance your books, create jobs, and build businesses.

Right now, Washington needs to get out of the way and let businesses create good, high-paying jobs so the hard-working men and women of Ohio can take care of their families and fuel our economy.

We need to run the government more like a business and using common sense.  Washington needs to serve the American people by cutting the waste, keeping costs low, protecting our hard-earned tax dollars, and most of all by getting out of your way.

It’s time to clean up Washington. Politicians have wasted our money on pet projects and failed programs.  They’ve created a corrupt system that has led to backroom deals, special favors, and an out-of-control bureaucracy – all while using the influence of their office to stay in power or take the next step on the political career ladder.  Government shouldn’t be allowed to pick winners and losers in the economy.

I’m a husband, father and businessman, not a politician. I am not running for myself, and I am not running because I need a job.  I have achieved success in the business world, and I don’t need politics to pay my bills. I have been blessed with a great family and a good life.

I am running to serve you.

Here’s where I stand on some of the most important issues facing Ohio:

Mike Gibbons

Politicians talk and talk about how they’re going to create jobs.  Give me a break.

I’m not a politician, I’m a businessman, so I’m going to be blunt: Politicians don’t create jobs, businesses do.  The only jobs politicians can create are government jobs, and the government’s broke.  They shouldn’t be hiring.  Politicians have already spent all of our tax money on wasteful programs and running up a massive debt.

I have created jobs.  I know firsthand that businesses create jobs when taxes are low and government gets out of the way.

When businesses are freed from high taxes and burdensome regulation and red tape, they will innovate, expand, and grow.  More jobs means higher wages for every worker – when businesses compete for workers, they have to increase pay and improve benefits.

So here’s what we need to do:

  • Reduce taxes and have a simpler, flatter tax code;

  • Eliminate the loopholes that only benefit the well-connected special interests;

  • Create a tax credit for every job that a business adds;

  • Reduce the regulatory bureaucracy that makes it expensive for businesses to create jobs.

I know how to create jobs for Ohio, because I’ve done it.  Career politicians haven’t.  It’s time to send a businessman to Washington.

Job Creation

Taxes are too high on families and businesses. High taxes stifle job creation and prevent families from being able to save and plan for the future, and too many families are looking for work and living paycheck-to-paycheck.

We need to cut taxes across the board and let people keep more of what they earn.

I support a simplified tax code that cuts marginal rates across the board. I’ll work to reduce taxes on business, and I’ll fight to get rid of the loopholes that Congress doles out to special interests.

Remember, it’s not Washington’s money, it’s our money.

Tax Reform

Obamacare must be fully repealed.  Prices have gone up, people have lost coverage, and many counties now only have a single option for insurance.  For seven years, Republicans have promised us that they would repeal and replace Obamacare.  They need to get the job done.  We need a full repeal, period.

After we repeal Obamacare, we need to start from scratch.  We need to lower the out-of-control costs of health care itself and create a new system built on the principles of free enterprise.

Health care providers should compete to serve you.  They should be working to offer the best possible care at the best possible price.  Patients should demand full transparency in health care billing, and health care providers should list the true price for every service and procedure up front and in clear language.  And we should be able to see the quality of care as well – success rates, infection rates, everything.

The role of government should be minimal: we need to make sure we have a state-based system that covers pre-existing conditions and provides ways for people to purchase insurance who truly need help.

If we get government out of the way and give patients the power to choose, we will reduce costs, improve service, make insurance more affordable, and create a patient-driven health care system.

Health Care Reform

The first priority of the United States military is to protect the United States of America, period.

I believe in Ronald Reagan’s adage of “peace through strength.”  The world is a safer place when America is strong and confident in its role as a force for good.  Our allies need to be able to trust us, and our enemies need to fear us.

That means we must continue to make sure that we have the best-equipped, best-trained military in the world.  We must continue to invest in high-tech weapons systems to make sure our men and women in uniform have the tools they need to win any battle.

And when it comes to the use of military force, we must be cautious but decisive.  Once we commit troops to battle, we must support them and let them win.

National Security

The opioid crisis in Ohio has affected every family.  It destroys lives, families, and communities.

We need to understand that the law-and-order approach to the drug crisis has failed.  We need to continue to prosecute hardcore dealers, but we need to focus on education, treatment, and support.

I believe in solutions.  I have personally put my money into a startup company that provides a way for addicts to break the cycle of addition.  We have a high success rate and have avoided some of the pitfalls of rehab.  But this isn’t about my company.  It’s about competition and innovation.  I want to see more health care providers join me in this fight.

I also know that there are no simple answers.  We need to work together to find solutions.

The Opioid Crisis

I’m pro-life.  I believe that all life must be protected.

If you send me to the Senate, I will vote to confirm originalist justices to the Supreme Court.   I will vote to immediately de-fund Planned Parenthood.  I will vote to end late-term abortion.

My mother was adopted, so this is an issue that is close to my heart.  I owe my life to my grandparents who gave my own mother a loving home.

We need to end abortion in America. Let us do it with compassion, support, and the understanding that we’re all here by the grace of God.

Let’s foster a culture that respects and supports life.

I believe strongly in our Second Amendment rights, and I will work to protect those rights from those who would try to limit in any way our ability to protect ourselves.

Our Founders wrote the Second Amendment to protect our God-given right to keep and bear arms.  They had just fought and won a war against the most powerful empire on earth, as farmers and tradesmen took up arms in the cause of liberty. The Second Amendment isn’t about hunting, it’s about our ability to stand up and defend ourselves.

I’m a gun owner myself, a lifelong member of the NRA, and a member of a shooting club.

I will never waver in my support of our Second Amendment rights.

The 2nd Amendment

We’re a nation of immigrants, but unchecked illegal immigration is out of control.  We must control our own borders.  We simply can’t have millions of people flooding to the country, working for lower wages off the books but still qualifying for taxpayer-funded government programs.  It’s not fair to the people who are competing for those jobs, paying their taxes, and following the law.

We used to talk about the Great American Melting Pot.  People came here from all over the world, risking their lives to become Americans and build their own American Dreams.  They got jobs, started businesses, learned English, and worked to create a better life for their children.  We need to be strong enough in our belief in that American Dream to demand that new Americans continue to follow our laws, starting with the laws that control our borders.

Illegal Immigration

Our society has failed the next generation.  This isn’t just a problem for millennials, it’s a problem for all of us.  Younger Americans are racking up student debt, and those debt payments have caused many to put off starting families or buy homes.  It hurts our economy, damages our families, and will eventually bankrupt the country.

But there are good, high-paying jobs out there for those who are willing to learn a trade – either through technical school or an apprenticeship program.  We used to honor the trades and encourage our young people to find a vocation that fits their skills.  Now we send them to overpriced colleges for worthless sociology degrees.

Every high school should have a shop class.  We need to encourage vocational education, technical colleges, and apprenticeship programs.  We need to do a better job explaining to our high school students smart career planning and the perils of student debt.  We need to provide a debt-free path straight into the workforce.

College Costs & Student Loan Debt

The people have had enough of the broken Washington system of career politicians, and they made that clear when they elected Donald Trump.

The President is shaking things up and pushing a strong conservative reform agenda of tax reform, job creation, and reducing the power of government.

He needs the support of Congress to get the job done, and I’ll work with him on his agenda.

The career politicians and liberal media attack the President every day, but they’re just trying to protect the corrupt system and their positions as power brokers. Their day is gone. The people are back in charge.
